Natalie, our Mortgage Adviser, has worked in Financial Services for over 25 years. Natalie’s calm and friendly approach puts everyone at ease no matter where they are on their home ownership journey. Qualifying as a Mortgage Adviser in 2000, she brings so much expertise to her role and is a huge asset to the team.
What made you choose this career?
I worked in the property department of a local Solicitor Firm and loved helping people sell their homes. When the opportunity came up to apply with the Yorkshire Building Society as a mortgage adviser, I decided to try for a career change. My role still involved properties, however now it was helping people to finance their first house purchase or next dream home. I love working with people and, being naturally inquisitive (some would say nosey!) this role was perfect for me.
What’s the best bit about your job?
I love meeting first time buyers and helping them buy their first home. This can be quite stressful and my role is to ensure it is as enjoyable and stress free experience as possible. I have clients who I have dealt with for many years and it is lovely to now have their children coming to me for mortgage advice! That’s when I know I’m getting old!
Do you have any advice for first-time buyers?
Ensure that your budget is realistic and that you have allowed for the bills and outgoings that come with being a homeowner. It can be very tempting to stretch the budget to get your dream home, however you still have to live day to day. So the most important thing is to ensure that you have monies to cover your bills, monies to put aside for rainy day emergencies and monies to enjoy life!
Where would your dream home be?
The Isle of Mull – I have always loved Islands and Mull holds a very special place in my heart as it is where we got married in 2000. It’s a wonderful Island which we go back to as often as we can. So much to do, places to be explored and the loveliest of people who give you such a warm welcome.
What’s your favourite way to spend a weekend?
Spending time with my family and getting out on my bike. We’re fortunate to live in a lovely part of the world and I find cycling a great way to help appreciate this. I also love going out for coffee, so my weekends always involve visiting at least one coffee shop!
What’s your favourite place to eat or drink in the local area?
Cambus O'May Cheese Shop – which sells the most wonderful coffees and cakes. This is one of my favourite stops when I’m out in my bike – on a sunny day I sit outside, enjoy my coffee and watch the world going on around me.
What are two things on your bucket list?
To visit St Kilda and to have my own book & coffee shop!
